Question 1

What documents can I keep in NestWise?

Accepted Answer

Identity documents such as a passport, Medicare card, driver licence or concession card, along with their numbers and expiry dates so NestWise can remind you before they run out. Alongside those you can keep insurance policies, mortgage and lease documents, school notes, receipts, pet and medication records, and anything you forward into your inbox address. Every one of them is something you choose to add. Nothing is collected from you automatically, and you can delete any of it at any time.

Question 2

Where are my files actually stored?

Accepted Answer

In Supabase Storage, on infrastructure hosted in Australia. Files are held in private buckets, which means they are not reachable by a public web address at all. Every file sits in a folder named after your account, and the database rules only allow that folder to be read by you. When a page needs to show you a file it asks for a temporary link that stops working after about an hour, rather than a permanent one.

Question 3

Can anyone else see my files?

Accepted Answer

No. The buckets are private and the access rules are scoped to your account folder, so another signed-in person cannot read your files even if they knew the exact path. The links the app hands your browser are temporary and expire. Identity document scans use a much shorter window than the rest, about a minute, because they are opened rarely and deliberately. NestWise staff do not browse customer files as part of normal work. Support can only see what you describe to them unless you send it.

Question 4

What information is kept about a document, apart from the file?

Accepted Answer

Only what is needed to find it and remind you about it: the file name you uploaded, its size and type, where it sits in storage, and the kind of document you said it was. Then the fields you confirmed, such as a document number, an expiry date, a provider name or an amount. For identity documents the number is stored as you entered it, so the reminder can tell you which card is about to expire. It is displayed masked on screen. NestWise does not collect your Tax File Number, and does not store your full payment card number - card payments are handled by Stripe and NestWise never sees the full number.

Question 5

If I photograph a card to save typing, is the photo kept?

Accepted Answer

No. When you photograph a card or a bill so NestWise can read the details off it, the image is read once and then discarded. It is never written to storage. Only the fields you then review and confirm are saved. This is different from choosing to upload and keep a document, which does store the file until you delete it.

Question 6

When I delete a document, is the file really gone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Deleting a document removes both the record and the file itself from storage, not just the entry you can see. A small number of things are kept deliberately and briefly: a bill you archive keeps its record while the attached file is removed on a schedule, so your history of what you paid survives even once the paperwork does not.

Question 7

What happens to my documents if I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

Everything goes. Deleting your account removes every record you have, and every file you have ever uploaded across all of them - documents, photos, statements, forwarded mail. The files are removed first, before the account itself. If that step fails for any reason the deletion stops and tells you, rather than closing the account and leaving the files behind with no way to find them.

Question 8

Can I get a copy of what NestWise holds about me?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in two parts, and they work differently today. Your typed information - profile, children, income, bills, entitlement claims and so on - can be downloaded as a single file from your account page at any time. Your uploaded files are downloaded one at a time from wherever they live in the app. There is no single button that packages every file into one download yet. If you want the lot, email hello@nestwise.net.au and it will be put together by hand.

Question 9

Does an AI read my documents?

Accepted Answer

Only when you ask it to. When you scan a bill, a payslip, a card or a statement so the details can be filled in for you, that file is sent to Anthropic to be read, and the extracted fields come back. The file is not kept by NestWise, and Anthropic does not train on it. Documents you simply upload and file away are not sent anywhere. Nothing is read in the background.

Question 10

What is Ask, and how is it different from asking ChatGPT the same thing?

Accepted Answer

Ask is the helper in the top-right corner. It answers questions about tax, benefits, family entitlements and how NestWise itself works. It searches three places at once: the product FAQ (this page), the tax and Centrelink corpora, and every published guide on nestwise.net.au. The honest reason it beats a general chat like ChatGPT for this kind of question: every dollar figure it quotes comes from the same NestWise rates catalogue that runs the calculators, not from a model reciting what it remembers. So a 2026-27 CCS cap, FTB supplement or PPL rate is the current one, not a figure the model saw during training. When a question has no supported answer in the corpora, Ask says so rather than inventing one. When you are signed in it can also reference what you have already told NestWise — the number of kids, current-FY income, whether you have HECS — so the answer fits your situation instead of a generic Australian household. Nothing about you is sent to the model beyond what the question needs to be answered.

Question 11

Who else does my information go to?

Accepted Answer

Supabase holds the database and the files, on Australian infrastructure. Stripe handles payments, and NestWise never sees your full card number. Anthropic reads documents you choose to scan, and answers questions you ask the helper. Resend sends the emails you have asked for. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.

Question 12

Does NestWise connect to my bank?

Accepted Answer

Not at the moment. You bring your transactions in by exporting a file from your bank and uploading it. NestWise reads the rows and keeps those, along with the name of the file you imported. The file itself is not stored. That means NestWise never has your banking login, and cannot move money.

Question 13

How is my financial information protected?

Accepted Answer

It sits in the same database as everything else, with rules that only return your rows when you are signed in as you. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by the database platform. The honest limit worth knowing: anyone who can sign in as you can see everything in your account. Your email password is the front door, so it is worth it being a good one.
