The Baby hub — pregnancy through toddler

The Baby hub is your workbench for the pregnancy → newborn → first-year → toddler window. PPL planning, baby budget, weekly journey, checklists, entitlements — organised by stage so you see what actually matters right now.

1. Stage-based structure

The hub shows one of five stages based on your baby_journey_stage:

  • Planning — not pregnant yet, thinking about it. Financial pre-checks.
  • Trying — actively trying. Same as Planning + fertility-adjacent guides.
  • Pregnant — EDD on file. a reminder when the Paid Parental Leave (PPL) claim window opens, weekly journey, antenatal care.
  • Newborn — birth < 6 months. Birth registration, Medicare add, Newborn Child Declaration.
  • First year — 6-12 months. Immunisation prompts, CCS eligibility timing.
  • Toddler — 12-36 months. Care-type decisions, kindy prep.

You set the stage during onboarding or via the Life events picker on Nest. It also auto-advances when a baby’s DOB crosses a threshold.

2. PPL planner (Parental Leave Pay)

Deep-drill at /dashboard/parental-leave. Covers the government PPL entitlement, employer top-up decoder, partner-coordination plan, and pre-birth cashflow bridging. The Baby hub summarises the current state and links you in.

3. Baby budget

Deep-drill at /dashboard/baby-budget. Category-by-category spend planning (bassinet, pram, car seat, nappies, formula, feeding, sleep). Marks “bought / borrowed / skipped” so you know what’s actually needed vs marketed as needed.

4. Weekly journey (pregnancy)

Paid feature. When stage is pregnant, the hub shows your current gestational week, AU-friendly fruit-size comparison, upcoming appointments, and what to prepare that week. Integration- first design — nothing about the week is fabricated; every prompt is anchored to real dates + real Services Australia deadlines.

5. Newborn checklists

Once the baby is on file (stage = newborn):

  • Birth registration — state-specific process + document checklist
  • Newborn Child Declaration (for FTB) — 52-week window from birth
  • Medicare add — how to add baby to your card
  • FTB claim — when + how (auto if newborn is added within FTB claim window)
  • Immunisation — NCIR alignment for future CCS eligibility
Sensitive changes: the Baby hub never assumes a positive outcome. If you experience pregnancy loss or stillbirth, the “I’m no longer expecting” life event on Nest quietly reverses the expecting state — no fanfare, no forced re-onboarding.

6. Paid tier

The Baby hub is a paid-tier hero surface. Free users see a preview + upgrade prompt. Paid tier unlocks the weekly journey, full checklists, integrated PPL + baby-budget deep-drills, and the watching layer (auto-nudges as milestones approach).
