1. Export from your bank
Most Aussie banks offer CSV export from transaction history. Quick recipes:
- CBA — log in, Transactions → Export → CSV. Pick last 12 months.
- ANZ — Transactions → Manage → Download as CSV.
- NAB — Account history → Export → choose CSV.
- Westpac — Transactions → Export. Pick CSV format.
- Macquarie — Transactions → Settings (gear) → CSV.
- Other banks — most allow a "generic" or "QIF" CSV export. Try and we'll figure out the columns.
2. Upload
Open Dashboard → Cashflow → Import a CSV. Pick the file. We auto-detect the bank format and show a preview before saving — date column, description column, amount column. You confirm the mapping, we ingest.
3. Categorisation
Every transaction is auto-categorised on import. Categories: utility, insurance, rates, school, strata, subscription, mortgage, childcare gap, groceries, fuel, transport, dining, entertainment, healthcare, kids' activities, clothing, shopping, fees, tax, wage, centrelink, refund, investment income, transfer, atm, cash, other.
Wrong category on a row? Tap it on the Cashflow page → pick the right one. We learn — the next time that merchant appears, the right category is the default.
4. What unlocks once imported
- Budget vs actuals chips — Everyday Spend rows now show "On pace / +$X over / −$X under" vs last 30 days
- Subscription detector — same-merchant + same-amount patterns surface as recurring bills
- Bill auto-match — bank rows linked to recurring_bills so "did I actually pay it?" is verified
- Payment account dropdown — your distinct accounts auto-populate when adding new bills
5. Privacy
Your CSV stays in your NestWise account. We don't share it. We don't sell aggregated spending data. We don't use it to train models. It exists to make YOUR money picture accurate — that's it.
Want to remove the data? Cashflow → Settings → Clear bank data wipes all imported transactions from your account. The CSV file itself was never stored.
